IFFA International Fashion Film Award Winner Best actor

Born and raised in Mexico City. Antonio studied art and fashion, making a career creating elaborate watercolor paintings. His first film "Antonio's Closet" where he talks about fashion, art and his passion for Mexican movies, won the "Founder's Award" at The Miami International Fashion Film Festival in 2013.

In June 2014 he was invited to the Mercedes Benz Bokeh South Africa Fashion Film Festival and shortly after in July his film "Mercado de Lagrimas" premiered at the La Jolla International Fashion Film Festival, winning "Best Make up".

In November 2014 his trilogy "Mercado de Lagrimas" was shown in Mexico City as part of the first ASVOF Mexico, courtesy of Diane Pernet, and was also presented at ASVOF Paris at the Pompidou Center.

In 2015 Contreras presented two films at La Jolla International Fashion Film Festival and a dance performance with his troupe paying homage to the "Golden era of Mexican Cinema" winning "Best Actor" for his performance in "Ay Jose" and the "Best Make up" award. Cinemoi also awarded the film with "Best Music Score" in Hollywood in October 2015.

He has produced several performance events with his students, often complementing capoeira, maculelê with samba and other forms of dance. Antonio’s work was recently recognized by the community when ACSF won the Bay Area A-List Award for Best Children’s Dance Studio in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015.

Artist and Athlete

Antonio Contreras “Instrutor Corrente,” an accomplished artist and athlete, has been an integral part of the ABADÁ-Capoeira since he began training with Mestra Márcia Cigarra in 2001. He is now one of ACSF’s lead instructors and performers. He has performed hundreds of times with the ACSF company including notable performances in the Spirit of Brazil concert series, and as a featured performer at the 33rd Annual San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival.
